Why is it important to be licensed specifically to teach "middle school", grades 4-9, young adolescents age 10-15?
Being licensed in your ideal grade levels is not only important for you as a teacher, but also for your students. When you choose what grade level(s) you want to teach, you ideally want to learn about that age range. For me, I want to teacher middle school Language arts and Social studies (grades 6-8). In my view, it is important to be licensed specifically to teach middle school because the educator would have a better understanding of the students. If an elementary teacher decided to teach eighth grade, they wouldn't have a great concept on how they are thinking mentally. Being licensed in middles school education means that the future educators will be knowledgable in their mental growth. It is important that these teachers are able to understand the students so they are able to connect with them. Having a connection with each and every students ensures that your classroom feels like a safe place for them. Of course you should have boundaries, but teachers should also be their friends (to a limit). No matter the grade, I think teachers should be educated in their preferred age group so they can understand how these kids feel, think, and see things.

I forgot to add my connections to ed puzzles and the article we had read this past week. Ed puzzles helped me learn more about how middle schools became a thing. it also informed the watchers about why middle school licensing is so important for adolescents development. An article I found titled “Learning Science and Edpuzzle: The Evidence-Based Framework That Supports Video Learning” by Dr. Rachel Schechter backs up the theory that it helps students learn in a different and fun way. she states in the article “Research shows that video characteristics such as audio and visual cues, subject relevance, narrative speaking style, signaling (explicitly directing the learner’s attention to a particular image, vocabulary term, etc.), and video length all have significant impacts on learner attention, engagement, and outcomes”. In a classroom, it’s important to have visual things to interest students. It keeps the students attention and often engages them. The article we read in class was about the AMLE standards. These standards ensure that teachers are prepared to be teaching within the middle school levels. It helps get teachers ready to connect and be prepared to be in action with the students. Overall, EdPuzzles are a good way for students to engage within their class work and a good way for them to take a “brain break” from the rest of the basic class work. The AMLE standards are important for our middle school teachers so we can have the top tier teachers that can connect with the students and understand how they grow.
