How to create an effective online learning community!
Online Learning Community Activities
For an online community having fun activities for the learners is important. Whether that be creating a quzzlet for the learners to use, a kahoot for studying, creating story board, etc. Having the students do discussion boards also create a learning experience for the students and a chance for the students to share the knowledge they have gained during the week. One activity that catches my attention is doing polls for the learners to vote on. These can be questions that are fun (Do you prefer cats or dogs?) or questions that are towards learning (Do you prefer to read to kill a mocking bird or animal farm?). Another activity that I have read about is having the students create a photo collage of the things that have been learned during the unit following a short paragraph explaining each picture. Community activities are important for students in an online community so they do not get burnt out or bored. Building an effective online community can be helpful to the students learning environments.
Practices With Creating A Community Online
Some of the best practices that I found for creating an online community is the most simplistic ideas. Teachers can help the students manage their time in the proper way. That can be giving them examples of time management sheets or just giving the deadlines so they can see what is expected to be due. This can also be used within the in person classes. Educators can also use group projects that make the students interact. Whether that be via email, text, calls, etc. Students can use this to interact with each other when working on a project.
What I will do as an educator to create a successful community if I were to teach online
If I were to teach an online class I could want my students to be very productive. I would make projects that would cause then to be creative and show as much knowledge as they can. I also would do discussion boards so I know what I need to touch base on more. I also really like the idea of a photo collage that the students can all interact with. I want the learners to be able to have fun with the assignments and make them different from the other classes the learners are taking. My biggest concern with the online learning is the productivity and the getting assignments on time. I would send out reminders every week on the assignments and their due dates. Overall, I want to have a fun online class if I were to have to teach in that setting.
