SAMR Model

 What is the SAMR model?

SAMR means the Substitute, Argumentation, Modification, and Redefinition model. This model is a four level approach for using and evaluating technology in school settings. The SAMR model is not represented in all literature at the moment. This model is represented as a ladder that teachers can use and categorize in their classrooms. The purpose of usage for teachers is to move up to higher levels of teaching with technology. Substitution means tech acts as a direct tool substitute, with no fictional change. Augmentation means tech acts as direct tool substitute, with functional improvement. Modification means tech allows for signification task redesign. Lastly, Redefinition means tech allows for creation of new tasks, previously inconceivable.

Why was the SAMR model created?

The SAMR model was created as an educational ladder for teachers to incorporate technology into their lessons and learning plans. This model is useful for teachers to grow with their technology as well as students.Technology continues to be an uprising thing within the community and using it within the school helps the students and educators use these for their own goods. The approach was to help develop an enchantment in students results. This model wants to improve quality in education and better help students for their use of digital education. This model also pushes teachers to their technology in specific ways that forces them to learn along with the students.

How will I use SAMR to ensure I am teaching effectively with technology?

Using this in my classroom could come in many different ways. I plan to ensure the effectiveness in my classroom setting is by making sure the students are staying actively engaged within the content. I will also use my effectiveness by ensuring each student will know how to use the technology. Technology is an uprising thing in todays society and by the time I am teaching, who knows where it will be. I want to make sure that I can use the technology to the best of my ability so I can show each student how to use it correctly.

I hope to teach 6th-8th grade language arts and socials students. Eventually I want to move up in grades but for the matter of being still being young when I start, I want to teach middle schoolers. I have an interest in using technology with my students since every class I've been in since middle school has used technology.

  1. Alyssa, I really like the way you explained why was SAMR Model was created. "This model is useful for teachers to grow with their technology as well as student". Be able to grow with your students as well is a great feeling as a teacher. Another point that I liked was " I want to make sure that I can use the technology to the best of my ability so I can show each student to use it correctly." I feel like that is so important to teach student how to correctly use technology in a correct way.

  2. Hey Alyssa, I liked how you pointed out making an effort to ensure the effectiveness of your classroom by making sure the students stay actively engaged. With technology advancing every day it is important for students to learn how to engage with this technology in the correct why while simultaneously staying on task with the learning objective. In order to properly demonstrate to our students how to engage with the technology we as educators should also have the same basic understanding.

  3. Hi Alyssa! I thought that the way you answered the questions was very simple but still provided enough detail to understand what was being asked. I know for me simple is a lot better when reading things! I also want to teach grades 6-8 but instead of language arts and socials studies I am the exact opposite and want to teach math and science. What made you want to teach those two subjects? I know for me that math and science are my favorite and that's what drove me to teach them, so I was wondering if it was same for you. Lastly I thought it was intriguing how you put that a big influence on wanting to use technology as a teacher is from using it in school at an early age. Overall I found your post to be interesting and laid out nicely!
